When You Pick Up Da Funk
This was a production that started with Lew's vocals recorded on top of Tom's rhythm guitar and a drum loop. He recorded some harmonies and bkgd vocals, and then flew back to Houston, TX, where he lives.
After that, we developed all the arrangements and added some bass (Tim Mullally), piano (Ruby Nordby) and percussion (Steve McLoone). Drums, guitars, B3 and string & horn arrangements were added by Tom. Sax solos were recorded in LA by Eric Fischer at Autumn Audio, played by David Woodford and "Stemsy" Hunter. Added harmonies and bkgd vocals by Annie, Tom, Steve McLoone and Simone Perrin.
Mixed and Mastered here at "The RudeLab"
If you are looking for examples of our arranging, please listen to the horns on all these, and the orchestrations on
"I'll Be" and "Chump Change".

James "Mudcat" Grant
This Town
As with most singer-songwriters, we started with Mudcat's rhythm gtrs, either electric or acoustic. He is an accomplished finger-picker, so bringing that out is important.
Tom M. added lead gtrs, bass and drums on "This Town", a song they've played live for some time.
"Something New" features Mudcat's finger-picked acoustic gtr and harmonica solo, and dobro by Tom.
All harmonies are by Mudcat.

Corey Koehler
FM
Besides his lyrics, one of Corey's strong points is his hard-driving acoustic guitar. Keeping it prominent in the mix is important to the arrangement. The goal was to keep it "lean and mean", adding simple elec. gtrs, bass and drums (by Tom M.), getting the most impact from the fewest instruments as possible.
